Caring for our community this holiday season

Social distancing has changed a lot of things – but it cannot stand in the way of caring, especially in our community. Historically, First State Bank has hosted in-branch drives to collect much needed items for our community during the holidays, the need to limit in-branch traffic to protect our customers and staff requires we think a little differently this year.

We can still make a difference.

There are thousands of families in our area that are facing crisis, and our community partners need gift cards to support these families and their urgent needs right now.

Please join us in collecting Cards for a Cause this holiday season. We will be collecting gift cards between December 1, 2020 - January 15, 2021.

HERE'S HOW YOU CAN HELP:

1. Purchase a $10, $20, or $25 gift card from one of the below:
Gas Station
Meijer
Target
Kroger

2. Visit any First State Bank branch drive-thru during normal business hours and drop off the gift card using our special designated envelope.

3. No time to get a gift card? That’s okay! You can donate cash (up to $50) to the charity of your choice using our Cards for a Cause envelope in the drive-thru.

CARDS FOR A CAUSE WILL BENEFIT:

MCREST – MCREST has expanded their shelter service and are nearing capacity. There are 1500 reported homeless children in Macomb County on any given night. The need in this area is increasing as people face more financial uncertainty and strain. Gift cards can help get a meal, a tank of gas to get to work, or warm clothing items for people in need.

TURNING POINT  Domestic violence cases have increased due to COVID and Turning Point’s ability to fundraise to support families in crisis has been limited. Their shelters are full – including 250 local children. Gift cards are used to help survivors with a range of needs – especially when they are getting on their feet.

CARE OF SOUTHEASTERN MICHIGAN – CARE of SE Michigan provides substance use prevention, early childhood and parent education, peer recovery coaching and employee and student assistance programs. Due to COVID, there has been a decrease in community support, support groups and treatment options, and substance use has increased 13.3% as of August 2020. CARE is experiencing increased need in every area because people are struggling with work, substances, family and the need for parenting support.
